Russia redux: we got a little problem

September 5, 2019

Today we had a frightening “walk-through” the Nuclear Era which we find ourselves in. Ambassador Jack Matlock said in 2015 that “nothing will change until we find a way to awaken American citizens to stand collectively against this situation.” So far we haven’t found the way.

One of our citizen diplomats, Mike Metz, gives us a synopsis of Dr. Vladimir Kozin’s speech on the the need for dialogue about the dangerous buildup of nuclear weapons in the US and Russia. Dr. Kozin wants to talk and nobody in the US wants to listen. Please send this message below to as many persons as possible!

Ok so we have many problems, enough to worry anyone who’s paying attention, but quietly lurking in the background is one so big it could ruin an otherwise-normal, problem-filled day. That would be thousands of US and Russian nuclear bombs on planes, missiles, and subs ready to go at a moment’s notice. We heard about those today.

Dr. Vladimir Kozin, of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, (“Harvard of Russia”—Kissinger) calls it Cold War 2.0. He’s been working on this since the days of Gorbachev and Reagan when the total number of nukes was hugely reduced. But now he’s worried and thinks we should be too. Why? Here’s the deal from his perspective:

– NATO has increased by 5x troops on Russia’s borders
– Offensive and defensive weapons are merging
– There’s way too much “regime change” action going on
– DoD has lowered the threshold for acceptable use of nukes, with a new class, (wait for it) “humanitarian” tactical nukes
– Reagan and Gorbachev’s treaties are dying like flies
– A new arms race is on, with hypersonic missiles, underwater nuclear drones, long-range battlefield lasers
– NATO is running 7x24x365 SAC bombers on Russia’s borders, ready for trouble, and
– 38% of Russians expect the US to start a nuclear war

What could possibly go wrong?

Feels like itchy trigger fingers. Could just ruin your day. This is not good.

Be the Diplomatic Link Between the Superpowers!

Dear CCI Followers,

Our 2019 Mega-Diplomacy Trip to Russia for September 1 – 17 is in the planning phase––It’s exciting! If you haven’t signed up, please do so. It will be the most extensive exploratory trip ever taken to Russia by American citizens–and the last CCI trip of its genre and scope.

Become a Citizen Diplomat, learn for yourself, converse with Russian counterparts, hear what Russian experts have to say about a dozen different critical issues: Gorbachev on Cold War I and II, Russian experts’ understanding of national and international politics, Russia’s financial system, the impact of U.S. sanctions, rebuilding Russia’s healthcare and educational systems, learn how Russians see the current worldwide development, their deep concern about Nuclear War, Russia’s recently unveiled missile systems, Internet usage and journalism across today’s Russia. Last, learn what different Russians think about Putin, the role of Russia’s oligarchs, corruption, their renewed interest in Russian Orthodoxy and last but not least, U.S.-Russia relations.

Be Part of the Solution!

Dear CCI Friends,

I need your assistance! This is about CCI’s September Citizen Diplomacy Trip to Russia. We hope for a 100 member delegation. Consider traveling with us on this “one-of-a-kind” trip. It will be CCI’s most intensive diplomacy effort ever. Travelers will meet with and question a dozen Russian Experts in Moscow including Mikhail Gorbachev and Vladimir Pozner. The meetings are usually two-hour sessions. Our two videographers will capture the Expert meetings and much of the entire trip.

Following Moscow meetings, we travel in triads to 30 regional cities to explore average Russian citizens’ interests, their thoughts and concerns, and how they carry out their lives far from the centers of power. We will share similar topics with them. Following these visits we reconvene in St. Petersburg where we will spend the first full day listening to and learning from fellow travelers’ experiences in their regional cities. YouTube videos, articles and stats will result from this data dump. With our important work completed, we will enjoy St. Petersburg’s unparalleled classical culture and meet with numerous CCI alumni from our former business management training programs. During these and regional traveling days we will have had face-to-face discussions with thousands of Russians across 10 time zones.

We need more Americans to travel on this CCI fact-finding diplomatic mission.

CCI’S INVESTIGATIVE TRIP TO RUSSIA 2019

March 4, 2019

Dear CCI Friends,

The dramatic and dangerous deterioration in relations between the U.S. and Russia demands that we all take unprecedented actions in 2019. It requires that citizens find unusual ways to educate and break through the mire of political actions and inaction to create new initiatives. CCI led the way in U.S.-USSR relations in the early 1980s before the term “citizen diplomacy” was coined. We are again searching for unparalleled ways for citizens to act.

Hence, we announce our latest venture in the direction of recreating goodwill, truth, openness and hope in the battered relationship between the U.S. and Russia … between American and Russian citizens and officials. Nothing on the planet is more important than this relationship during today’s state of affairs.

We invite you to consider participating in this nationwide, 30-city investigatory trip … or forwarding this invitation to someone you know who may be interested in this much-needed endeavor.

Mikhail Gorbachev: A Nuclear Arms Race Will Produce No Winners

February 15, 2019

Despite everything, it is still in our power to avoid nuclear confrontation.

The fate of the INF treaty has politicians and ordinary people worried on every continent. I am also concerned, and not only because I signed that treaty with former U.S. President Ronald Reagan in Dec. 1987. These events are yet another manifestation of the dangerous and destructive trends in world politics facing us today.

The main idea guiding us on the path to signing the original treaty was expressed in a joint statement with the United States, adopted at our first meeting in Geneva: “A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.”
